Unionists under the Association of Democratic Labor Organizations – Kilusang Mayo Uno (ADLO-KMU) fear that Arturo Macalalag, 45 years of age, a trade union organizer of the ADLO-KMU is missing when he did not report for their meeting today at the ADLO-KMU office in Quezon City as part of their preparation for the upcoming May Day celebration.
Around 12 noon today when he left his house to proceed to the ADLO-KMU office and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, denim pants, blue rubber shoes and a white cap.
The meeting he was supposed to attend was scheduled at 2 in the afternoon but since he was late, members of ADLO-KMU tried to contact him through his mobile number but were unable to. Before they lost contact with Macalalag, he was able to tell them that he was in the vicinity of Mantrade in Makati City .
After a few minutes, an unidentified caller informed the members of ADLO-KMU that Macalalag was inside a police precint. As of press time, his whereabouts is still unknown.
After knowing of the incident, the KMU asked the help of the Center for Trade Union and Human Rights (CTUHR) to assist in calling police precints around Metro Manila seeking the Macalalag’s whereabouts.
According to Elmer “Ka Bong” Labog, this incident might have a direct connection to the preparation of KMU and other workers to celebrate Labor Day on May 1.
The KMU is asking who ever has any relevant information on the condition and whereabouts of Macalalag to contact the KMU office immediately.
