Kilusang Mayo Uno Chief Legal Counsel Atty. Remigio Saladero Jr. and 72 other leaders of progressive legal organizations in Southern Tagalog were slapped with charges of multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder for supposedly blowing up a Globe Telecom cell site in Puerto Galera, Mindoro.

Saladero and 27 others from Southern Tagalog as well were also charged with arson and inciting to rebellion for accuses of setting another Globe cell site in Lemery, Batangas on explosion.

Saladero was arrested on his office in Antipolo last Thursday, with the police showing a defective warrant of arrest – it has a name not exactly identical to his and an address where neither he lives nor works.

As of recent findings also, two other activists from the listed 72 were also arrested and detained by the police.

The police and military in both Batangas and Mindoro refuse to give copies of pertinent documents of the case to Saladero’s colleagues. The Mindoro police and judge even amended the wrong names and address of Saladero to correct the information basis of the arrest without public knowledge.

“How can corrupt criminals like Jocjoc Bolante enjoy full protection from the government while innocent servants of the people are cracked down and hastily arrested and jailed by the police and military?” questioned Joselito Ustarez, KMU Executive Vice President.

“If the Arroyo regime wishes to silent us defenders of the people against her repressive policies, then we vow to fail her.”

The Batangas court will also have its first hearing on the case today. Lawyers of Saladero and the 27 accused will file a counter affidavit as colleagues and supporters hold a picket outside.

This will coincide another picket at the Globe head office in Mandaluyong.

“Globe should stop conniving with the regime in silencing the people,” Ustarez said.

Blue ribbons were tied and choked around the protesters’ necks to demonstrate that “under Globe and Arroyo, we are under threat 24ever.”

“Saan ka man, inosente ka man, o naglilingkod sa bayan, abot-huli ka sa Globe,” Ustarez said. ###
